History of the Sisterhood of Traveling Bracelets
Originally, Debbie Kaiser and her daughter Jordan began making jewelry to sell to benefit Komen for the Cure. Jordan was 16 at the time. They made necklaces and sold them within The Hamlet Community at large fundraisers chaired by Cathy Weill and Lois Martin.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bracelets was born in 2009 when Debbie Kaiser, Tania Haftel, Nita Goldman, Valerie Eastman,Serena Cummins, Miriam Levinson, Toby Ann Bier, Vivian Goldstein and Ellen Sue Hattenbach began making the vintage button bracelets for Komen for the Cure. Another Hamlet resident, Dahlia Manaker has been instrumental in setting up dates at various South Florida golf and tennis clubs where the Sisterhood could sell the bracelets and is now an official member of the sisterhood. Carol Nussbaum joined the group in 2015. The Sisterhood has traveled to Fort Myers, Naples, Jupiter, West Palm Beach, Key Largo as well as locally in Delray Beach, Boca Raton and Boynton Beach..
In December 2011, the Sisterhood of the Traveling bracelets began fund raising exclusively for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. To date over $100,000 has been donated to the hospital to fund cancer initiatives.
